Have you ever wondered how to Minimize Skype to System Tray for Windows 10? Oh well, I have some bad news!
So I decided to try out the new Skype for Windows 10. Ok, it looks a bit decent. I like the dark interface and it software also seems faster.
I pressed the X button with the idea of closing the app to System Tray. Nope. The app was gone! I enter the app again and decide to check the settings. There are no settings for “Minimize Skype to System Tray“!!
I go to google, minimize my searches for the past month and I see lot’s of topics with people asking the same thing! “How do you minimize Skype to system tray for Windows 10?“.
Lot’s of questions with no answers until I found this anwer from a Skype staff:
“For Skype on Windows 10 we analyzed usage data for all the settings in the Win32 client and found many of the more advanced settings were barely used. Because of the low usage we decided not include them in favor of getting other features in sooner.“
Here is a screenshot & here is the link to that topic:
My GOD. Skype proves again that it’s the most incompetent software developer in the world. Not only that Skype over the past years barely improved and it still has a lot of old problems… not only that you can lose your Skype account without the ability to get it back… but man…
You push in a new update and you leave out a pretty basic feature. What do you think people will do? Just stay with Skype in the taskbar eating up important space? No! I fking want to MINIMIZE SKYPE TO SYSTEM TRAY!!!
Even in the old version it was a bit hard to find the option to do this.
You had to go to Settings > Advanced Settings and you had to UNCHECK a setting called “Keep Skype in the taskbar while I’m signed in“. Why call it something more normal like… “Minimize to system tray”? I guess that you might want to make the basic user understand what he is doing, but the basic user will not use this anyway, like that post was saying. However, a more advance user might just miss the option because he might skim trough the text. At least that’s how I did it a couple of times until I finally memorize where this shitty option was.
